Demo of streaming audio and video on my treo 700wx
Well I had to really geek out tonight! Get this sh*t. My wife made me take the family out to dinner halfway through the Patriots/Jax game! So I quickly set up a streaming server on my computer that happens to have a video/audio feed from one of the DirecTV receivers. So I turned it onto the game and was able to watch it away from home while the kids ate Chinese Buffet (one that doesn't have TV's playing the game! How barbarric!) So when I got home I made a demo here of how well it works. I am NOT using SlingShot (a program you can buy to stream your TV to your SmartPhone). I am using a cheap $15 program I actually bought to capture my outdoor security camera that captures pictures when it senses motion. It saves pictures to the hard drive, uploads to an internet site, and can stream live video which I normally don't use. The only thing it doesn't do is allow you to remotely change the station. I never need to do this, so I don't care. My initial desire to stream video is to watch what the kids are doing at home when I am away via a webcam in the living room, etc. I fiddled around and figured out how to set it up one day and all I have to do is set it to enable a streaming connection. I wrote a simple playlist file that my media player would understand. It directly connects to my home IP adress (from Cox) and the router forwards the port number to the correct computer. The program on the computer does the rest. It uses a capture card to stream the audio and video. I usually have it set for 10 or 15 frames per second for webcam use, but I turned it up to 30 for the football game. the Alltel high speed EVDO connection streamed the game without any glitches. I also demonstrate how I listen to streaming audio and watch youtube videos no problem with the Treo 700wx. I don't think I'll be buying an iPhone anytime soon. As this thing is easy to add programs and is heavily supported. Some of the tricks I learned from others. Some of it I figure out by playing with it on my own, like this streaming video stuff. :)
